Hey all, it's Luke here. I've been running around the USSF in Atlanta for a couple days now, meeting lots of people and talking up the convention. I have a lot of groups I plan to contact about putting on workshops and stuff. I think a great format would be a series of topical workshops ending in a bunch of planning sessions. Sure the rallying aspect is going to be great, but I will not be satisfied as a monkey wrench in the cogs. We can produce something remarkably positive in the next year. Stay strong, let's get this conversation going.
hey, it's thistle here. I just went on a group bike ride with 17 people. It was Awesome!!! 120 miles round trip in just two days. the route for the PNC2RNC ride will take us only 30 miles a day, but I think that is good since a lot of what we are doing is cultural and social. Sending out a CALL FOR SONGS, out there far and wide, so that we can create a songbook at the end of the ride. I volunteer to collect ppl's songs, if you type-write them out with chords for guitar or just the key they are written in and the lyrics. If others want to draw pictures for this HUGE book we are going to make, that would make it look nice too.
Also, if you are considering doing this ride the summer of '08, here are some suggestions. PLAN AHEAD OF TIME what you are bringing, bring food to share, bring lots of water and water carrying capacity and tools for fixing your own bikes. It would be IDEAL if people came to this ride already organized into small groups of friends who commit to keeping track of each other and watching each others' backs. In addition, if said small groups had a talent or skill to share as a group, that would make the ride even more interesting and awesome. I would like to form a barber-shop quartet so we can just bust out in song whenever and wherever we feel like it. chants that the whole group can do together would also make us better than the normal america that i encounter everyhumdrumday too. what else? oh yeah, INSTAPROTESTS---those were definitely much appreciated and fun the summer of '04 on the dnc2rnc march from boston to new york. what you do is have flyers ready for mcdonald's, burger king, walmart and whatever hated corporation of your choice and you just get a posse and go wherever you see said establishment on the horizon or across the parking lot as the case may be, and you PROTEST. songs for these occasions would make them even more effective too.
eager to hear others' ideas and thoughts about this. next meeting is August 2nd, escape coffeehouse 7 pm.
It's thistle here, july 27th is the date. here is my statement of purpose for the PNC:
to gather people non-hierarchically and democratically to discuss and share ideas, visions, song and art regarding the status of democracy in america. To provide a space for small groups to form and plan for demonstrations at the DNC and the RNC. To provide a space for our mobile bike village to meet and greet before we leave for the RNC.
Sarahtops update 8/21/07: A HA! I have found where all this discussion is taking place! I'm not sure where folks are adding their ideas for the PNC mission statement, so I'll just add my 2 cents here: "To provide the people of the United States an alternative political convention; to network supporters of true democracy; to share knowledge and experience of grassroots organizing, self-governing, and strengthening of community; to empower individuals to think and act for themselves."
