1910s

  • Women's housing cooperatives formed after UW goes co-ed (Tabard House, Green Dragon?)

1910

Emma Goldman visits UW-madison, ispiring "sifting and winowing" plaque

1931

  • Babcock Co-op house founded at 120 N Lake St. Named after Stephen Babcock, Agriculture professor.

1943

  • Grove's Co-op house founded at 150 Langdon. First women's co-op. Named after Dr. Harold Groves, ag econ frofessor, state senator, co-op supporter.

1946

  • Green Lantern Eating Co-op moved into the basement of Grove's, then to 625 N Henry St., seving meals to the community.

1949

  • Conference in Madison to form an association of co-ops. None formed because of a disagreement between Grove's and Green Lantern over a rental agreement on their use of grove's basement space. Grove's moves to 1104 W Johnson St.
