1990

  • MCC buys 12 N Butler for Ofek Shalom.
  • Lakeside Press becomes a co-op.
  • Anti-ROTC protesters occupy UW Regents meeting.

1991

  • Community Pharmacy becomes a worker co-op (started as Wisconsin Student Association (WSA) pharmacy)
  • After restructuring MCC staff so there is no longer a single chief executive, MCC hires Seth Nowak as the first Member Services Coordinator.
  • MCC buys Womyn's
  • 200 ACT-UP protesters smear peanutbutter on WI Capital.
  • UW weds Pentago in "Marriage from hell" on Bascom Hill.

1992

  • International Co-op becomes a member of MCC agian.
  • UW cuts money to WTA but the womens' ride service lives!
  • 500 protest Columus in Madison, burn Nina at Capital.

1993

  • MCC shuts down Mulberry Co-op because of management concerns, replaces Mulberry with Hypatia.

1994

  • Women's rights protesters spoil Hooters grand opening in Madison.

1995

  • MCC goes on the web
  • MCC shut down Le Chateau because of problem members, replaces Le Chateau with Meridian.
  • MCC becomes sales tax exempt (gains 501(c)(3)status)
  • Labor protesters occupy WI Capital, burn WMC sign.
  • Madison Council passes Free Burma ordanance.

1996

  • At a General Membership Meeting, MCC decide to buy a new house at 625 Francis Street.
  • Madison Hours starts.
  • Whole Earth Co-op closes in Madison.
  • MCC buys Emma Goldman Co-op.
  • MCC shuts down Meridian becouse of contiuing difficulties with members of Meridian, replaces Meridian with Phoenix.
  • Hundreds occupy WI Capital protestig welfare cuts.

1997

  • Nature's Bakery unceremoniously kicked out of Farmers Market. [Market policy required that a business be owned by the same people for x number of years; Nature's Bakery had been in business as a worker co-op for dozens of years and so they kept listing same "owners" year after year, until farmer's market people decided this was improper. - ALW]
  • Students occupy Regents Meeting protesting over UW investments.
  • TAA grade-in on Bascom Hill.

1998

  • MCC makes loans to housing co-ops in San Barbara, St. Louis and Memphis.
  • Cafe Assisi reopens as a worker co-op.
  • Cafe Assisi's Peace Park picnic.
  • Fair trade protesters spoil Starbucks grand opening in Madison.
  • UW student government pays living wage.

1999

  • MCC gets property tax exemption.
  • MCC spends year talking to members to figure out how to divide property tax savings.
  • Village Cohousing starts
