Hi, my name is Jen, aka Calico Future and I worked on food support for the DNC2RNC March with the kitchen collective Seeds of Peace. My partner and I have started our own road kitchen this year. We are based out of Louisville, KY but are going to try to stay on the road doing kitchen stuff for the better part of the year.

After learning of your plan at Bike! Bike! in Pittsburgh this year, I realized that we would be the perfect people to support your bike march with our kitchen. For DNC2RNC, Seeds of Peace did a travelling kitchen with a bus, a truck, and a trailer. We cooked food for the marchers, providing them with breakfast, lunch, & dinner. We delivered lunch to them at mid-day, then broke down the camp and transported everyone's gear on the trailer to the next camp, set up, and cooked dinner. It was hard, hard work and admittedly, it was hell. I'd like to do it again for y'all, because it's what we do!

We have a veg-oil pickup truck and some basic equipment. If we support you next summer, I'd like to obtain a trailer for our gear and a portable bike shop with stand and tools. We are bike people as well and we'd recruit at least one more mechanic type to work with us. A two week bike tour would be much easier to support than a month long march, and we'd do it in the same fashion, doing setup, teardown, and cooking all day while the bikers are riding. I am confident that we could do it. This would be far preferable to everyone bringing their own food and gear on bike trailers. We will travel to Wisconsin to meet with you guys soon if you like-- we are Rainbow Family and we have friends in the Madison area we'd like to see again anyhow!

My email is calico3379@netzero.net and I am on Myspace at myspace.com/calico.

Please contact me and we'll talk! I could give you some lowdown on some of the problems we faced as far as support infrastructure on the DNC2RNC March... it was a successful event but it was kind of touch-and-go for the most part. By the end of the thing, we practically melted down with fear and stress and exhaustion. It was a miracle that we reached New York. Still, it was a success and I'm pleased you guys are doing it again but with bikes!
